How Getting A Dog Can Change Your Children’s Lives

Making memories with a four legged friend. Image via Pexels.

The saying that a dog is man’s best friend feels true to a lot of us dog lovers. But it might be even more accurate to say that a dog is an even better friend to a child, as they have so much to teach them. A beloved four legged friend can have a massive impact on a young life, and there is a reason that so many of us remember our childhood canine companions so fondly.

If you’re still struggling to decide, these ideas could help to tip the balance:

Your Children Will Get Sick Less

A powerful study from researchers in Finland recently showed a link in decreased rates of respiratory illnesses in babies who had lived with dogs during the first year of their lives. Dogs introduce a small amount of germs into the babies’ environment that helps to build up their resistance to airborne microbes. This has a halo effect on infant immune systems which can help them to grow up stronger.

A Dog Can Help With Reading Ability

It sounds strange admittedly, but a family dog can help with confidence issues in young readers. Children often feel self-conscious when learning to read and having to read aloud in classroom situations. Reading to the dog is a way to practise having an audience without feeling judged and can encourage them to take their time. It’s a confidence boost that can really help.

They Get More Exercise

How to get our kids moving outside and off their tablets and games consoles is a dilemma that many modern parents face, and having a family dog who needs walking can really help with that. Not only does it force you to get outdoors, which is hugely beneficial for mental wellbeing, but it can also get children involved with games involving balls and rope. It won’t seem like a chore if they’re playing with the dog.

It Teaches Responsibility

The basics of pet care are a great learning opportunity for children about taking responsibility for the welfare of a dog and cleaning up after it. It also shows them that actions have consequences – if they don’t control their dog and allow him to run in the mud, they have to clean up the dirty paw print and get out the dog shampoo! Getting children to help with that shiba inu shedding or puppy training accidents will teach them so much.

It Bonds The Family Together

Having a pet is great for bringing siblings and parents together. Sharing the joy and love but also the caring responsibilities of dog ownership is a special process. And all those walks mean time to spend together talking and bonding away from screens and other distractions.

A dog can do an awful lot to bring people closer and help create some amazing memories. Having a companion who has been with the family since the children were babies is an incredible positive influence in the lives of everyone involved.

4 Security Features That Every Business Website Needs

A good website is essential if you’re running a graphic design business. It’s a place for you to showcase your work to potential customers and it’s a vital part of your marketing strategy. But running a business website comes with a lot of dangers. Online security is a big concern for any business these days because the risk of cyber-attack is always looming. If you are the victim of an attack, you may lose personal information that could damage the business or the site could be shut down entirely.

You’ll lose business until you get it back online again so it’s essential that you protect yourself online. People may also try to copy your work and pass it off as their own so they can attract customers themselves. That’s why you need to make sure that you’re taking all of the necessary security measures when you’re setting up a website. These are the features that you must include if you want to ensure that your website is secure.

HTTPS

When you go on most websites, the web address has HTTPS at the beginning and you’ll see a small padlock icon next to it. HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It sounds complicated but in basic terms, it just means that the connection between your computer and the website is secure and encrypted and nobody can tamper with data while it’s being sent between the two.

In real terms, that means it’s safe to make a transaction on the website or send personal information without anybody getting hold of that information. If you don’t set up HTTPS on your site, the connection won’t be secure and any visitors will be wary. Most sites have it these days so people will notice if yours doesn’t and they might think twice about using the website at all.

Customer Verification

If you’re dealing with any personal information from customers or taking payments from them, it’s important that they know they can trust you, but it works the other way around as well. Sometimes, people may try to pose as customers and attempt to get you to share sensitive information with them. That’s why it’s important that you have a good customer verification service in place so they can prove they are who they say they are.

There are a lot of regulations about data usage as well so if you accidentally share information with the wrong person, you can end up on the wrong side of the law. Luckily, it’s easy for people to comply with regulations using your phone or computer. There are some great services that offer document verification so customers can scan their driving license or passport in to prove that they are who they say they are. There are even facial recognition services available for an extra level of security.

Copyright Protection

This is important on any websites but it’s especially important if you’re creating a lot of original work. There are always people that will try to pass it off as their own and that can have a big negative impact on your business. Always use watermarks on any original images that you put on the site so it’s harder for people to pass them off as their own. You can also add copy and paste protection to any text so if somebody lifts an article off your site and posts it on their own website, it’ll show up with a few lines at the bottom directing them to the original source.

It’s important to remember that copyright protection works both ways as well. If you aren’t careful, you might find yourself on the wrong side of the law. If you’re using any pictures or videos that you’ve found online, for example, it’s important that you only use ones that are free to use and not ones that are copyrighted. You could end up having to pay a large legal settlement if you make a mistake, even if it was a genuine accident.

Security Testing

It goes without saying that you need proper cyber-security measures in place to protect against hacking attacks on the site, but how can you be sure that they’re working. Hackers are constantly coming up with new ways around security software so there’s always the chance that you have gaps that make your vulnerable.

That’s why it’s absolutely vital that you have security testing software in place. It will constantly scan the website and pick up on any weak spots that need attention. That way, you can ensure that the site is always safe.

If you make sure that you have all of these security measures in place, your website should be safe.

Moving Into A New Home? Essential Drainage Advice

Moving into a new dwelling is an exciting time and with so much to organise, it is easy to overlook essential things like drain inspections. As your drainage system is underground, the only way to discover the condition of the interior pipes is to call in a specialist company that has all the hi-tech equipment to give you a detailed overview of the state of your drains.

Online Solutions

You might be wondering how to make contact with a company that specialises in drainage maintenance and repair, but with an online search, you can locate local drain unblockers by 24/7 Drainage Solutions, the UK’s leading drainage services company. Such a company is fully equipped to carry out a detailed inspection of the complete drainage system and can carry out effective repairs in the event there is an issue.

CCTV Survey

As the owner of a new property, you should ascertain the status of your drainage and by using CCTV go-anywhere cameras, the drain specialist can get a detailed picture of the inner pipes, which will reveal any potential issues. Preventative maintenance minimises the risk of a blocked drain, which can be a costly exercise, and with an annual inspection, you won’t get a nasty surprise at some time in the future. For those who would like to turn their hands to drain unblocking, there are articles that detail how to unblock a drain without the use of harmful chemicals, although for most people, calling out the experts is a preferred solution.

Power Cleaning

Whatever the condition of your drain pipes, it is always a good idea to have the system power cleaned. This involves using high pressure water that will remove all residue from the interior pipe surfaces, thus ensuring a free flow. There are specialist companies who carry out power cleaning and while they are doing that, you can ask them to inspect the inner pipe surfaces, which will give you a detailed report on the condition of your drains. A partial blockage can very quickly turn into a complete blockage and a power clean will remove all residue, leaving the inner surfaces of the pipes clean.

New Build

Even a newly constructed house can have drainage issues, and in some cases, ground movement will cause a drain blockage, as the recent building causes movement and heavy construction machinery can put a big strain on underground sewer pipes. Ground subsidence is far more likely with a newly built house, which can take years to settle down and by having the professionals carry out a thorough drainage inspection, you will be informed if there are any issues.

The older a property is, the more chance there is of drain damage, so make sure one of the first things you do after moving in, is to have the drains inspected. After the initial inspection, make it an annual exercise and that should ensure that your drains are always in good working order.

Friday Doesn’t Have To Be Black With These Heavy Hitters

Thanksgiving is almost here, which means the biggest shopping day of the year is on the horizon. For moms that want to get their loved one the greatest gifts but don’t have the money, this is an incredible opportunity. Most things are half price or better and there’s an excellent collection.

But, BF is losing its novelty appeal as crowds of people fight, punch and kick for items. Everybody wants to a bag a bargain, yet nobody wants to get hurt in the process. Plus, all the good deals go before there is time to blink. Sometimes, the day after Thanksgiving is a bust and it’s frustrating.

The good news is there is a reason to give thanks on the 23rd of this month.

Double Up

Pretty much anything goes and that means you can double up your vouchers and gift cards. With Swagbucks, finding the golden tickets isn’t tough because it rewards its users for their usual online shopping routine. Anyone thinking “is Swagbucks a scam?” should think again because plenty of shoppers use it to great effect. All you need to do is build up coupons and type in the code when the clock hits midnight on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day.

Split Responsibilities

You want to buy so much yet can’t be in ten places at once. Typically, you’ll hit as many stores as possible but this will only be about three or four realistically. Rather than leave deals on the table, you can team up with friends and family members and spread out across the city. Sync your shopping lists and purchase anything on there which is discounted, and get them to do the same. Then, meet up and sort through the bounty, paying back whomever for their hard work. Teamwork is the winner on Black Friday.

Don’t Be An Early Bird

Usually, the early bird gets the worm, but not on Black Friday. By the time you’ve flown the nest, the night owls will have swooped in and taken all the best deals. Companies tend to begin their discounts on Thursday night going into Friday morning, so it’s better to stay up late than get up early. If you have the energy, and if they’re open, drive down to the stores and shop at midnight. Your dedication will reward you with incredible gifts, and you can sleep in the day after while everybody is in a panic.

Bring An Ad

Sneaky companies say they offer a price guarantee yet renege on the offer. It’s a marketing trick leading up to the day which encourages customers to shop with them online or in-store. Now that you know this, don’t let them get away with their trickiness. A fantastic tip is to make a copy of the ad and bring it with you as evidence so that they have to honor their promise. Then, go to a competitor and place the rivals off one another.

The phrase “if you can’t beat them, join them” is well worth remembering at the start of the shopping season.

Running Out Of Space In Your Home?

If your home is starting to get a little cramped and you can’t afford to upsize, don’t worry – there could be other ways to add extra space to your home.  Here are just a few tricks to make your home feel roomier.

Build an extension

The most obvious way to add space to your home is to build an extension. This might not be possible in many home and even if you do have the extra space to extend you still need to get planning permission first. Extending is a great way to create the ideal space you want – if you’re running out of space for books, you could create a library, or if you’ve got a new arrival on the way you could build a new bedroom. Companies such as https://kitchensacramento.com/remodeling/ can help to carry out your extension. Extensions can be expensive so make sure you set a budget.

Convert an unused space

Another option could be to convert an unused space such as an attic, garage or cupboard under the stairs and turn it into liveable space. This could allow you to build a new bedroom or a home office or a new bathroom. It’s likely you’ll need to spend some time decluttering this space and cleaning it up. Conversions can be a lot cheaper than extensions, plus you likely won’t need planning permission.

Go open plan

Rather than having lots of closed off rooms, consider knocking down a few interior walls and opting for an open plan layout. This could give you more freedom when it comes to adding large furniture. Many people with a living room, kitchen and dining room tend to knock all these rooms into one. You may want to avoid knocking bedrooms together as this could seriously damage your home’s value.

Use less floor space, more vertical space

It’s better to have more space to walk around and less space on the walls. Try to avoid storage units that protrude and take up most of the room and instead opt for tall shelving units that make the most of the room’s height. You may be able to mount your TV on a wall rather than having a TV stand taking up floor space or hang a bike up on a wall rather than leaning it against it.

Use collapsible furniture

Collapsible furniture can be put in a cupboard when not in use, freeing up space in your home. Few homes have the room for a permanent dining table, however having a fold up table to put up in your living room for when you need it could be a way around this. You can even get collapsible sofas and beds that may be ideal for a small bedsit. Sites like https://expandfurniture.com/ have a great selection of these kinds of furniture.

Use multi-purpose furniture

You may also be able to save space with multi-purpose furniture and appliances. This could include a washer-dryer or a sofa-bed. You can also buy beds and sofas that double up as storage. By combining two pieces of furniture you could free up a lot of space.

My Goal and Planning Routine as a Busy Mom

Me and my beautiful children

Sometimes my days are full of chaos and the days seem to pass by so quickly.  Before I had kids I would spontaneously wake up as I pleased and go where I wanted on a whim.  Now I have to plan events at least a month in advance.

My calendar is filled up quick from PTA meetings to IEP meetings and blogging I have a crazy schedule.  So how do I do it all? Secretly, it never truly ends and I am always finishing up something.  But it is important to organize your days, weeks, and months to stay on track.  Using a planner/organizer can help you be efficient.

Here are a few tips on how I set my days and organize my busy life with 4 kids.

Plan Ahead

Now that I have 4 kids doing things at the last minute can be challenging.  Events need to be planned ahead to avoid any issues in our household.  I prefer to plan things in advance so that I don’t overbook.  I truly dislike canceling on people, if I say I am going to be there (unless there are unforeseen circumstances that I cannot prevent) I will be there.

Planning ahead also keeps my family on track as well.  I like to use a wall calendar so my kids and husband can easily see what’s happening in the weeks to come.  It’s super effective.

Set Goals

People ask me random questions, “why are goals so important for you if you’re a stay at home mom”.  Honestly it’s very important for my personal growth.  I am crazy in love with my 4 babies, but I have to do somethings for myself as well.  These goals don’t have to be career oriented.  It can be anything from a personal goal like weight/diet, or putting a mani/pedi in the calendar.

Blogging has become a major part of my life.  My website is my other baby that I must nourish and care for not only to monetize but because my passion is to help as many moms as I can. I have to set deadlines for posts and network with other bloggers. This process can be time consuming so I try to set dates when I can work while I have time (like when the kids are at  school and my littles are napping).

Set a daily routine…And stick to it!

I understand consistency is hard (and boring). But keeping the routine can be essential to your daily success.  I have 4 kids, 2 of them are in school all day and 2 are at  home with me.  My oldest son has ASD and keeping a routine is crucial for him.  This honestly has helped me in so many ways to stay organized.  So how do you start? First things first…COFFEE! Right, coffee definitely helps get us through the monotonous routine.

  • Set times to do things- break down the chores for each day rather than breaking your neck to clean every day.
  • Do things the night before- everything from making lunches to ironing clothes can be done at night so you don’t waste your day doing them in the morning.
  • Try to schedule things while the kiddos are at school- this helps you get things done while they are gone so when they come home you can focus on them.
  • Make your bed every morning- I’m telling you; this does something to my confidence in the morning. I feel like a new person with a freshly made bed
  • Enjoy the littles (if you have them at home)- take the time to play, imagine, color and paint with your babies.  Time goes so fast and these are the things they will remember forever.

These are just a few ideas to help you set a successful day. You can add things as you go because there are things that happen throughout the day that aren’t on the list obviously.  But you get the idea.

Creating a Beautiful Bedroom: Where to Save and Where to Splurge!

It’s perfectly possible to create a beautiful home, without having to break the bank. The best way to tackle the job is to know where to save and find bargains, and where to splurge a little. With some things, it’s worth spending a little more for better quality and have pieces that will perform better or last for longer.

But where exactly should you make savings, and where should you get a little spendy without feeling bad about it? Here are some ideas when it comes to your bedroom.

Save: bedroom furniture

Bedroom furniture can be incredibly pricey, and when you’re revamping the room could quite easily be your biggest cost. While expensive furniture is gorgeous, there’s actually some really good quality mass produced pieces out there these days which allow you to kit out the space on a budget.

Take Ikea for example, they have lots of budget ranges in different styles which allow you to replace your furniture without spending thousands. Just make sure everything is put together properly, so it stays sturdy for longer. Another option if you want more solid pieces is to upcycle.

Get yourself some solid wood furniture from a junk shop or a local classifieds site, and bring it up to scratch with a coat of paint and some new handles.

Splurge: the mattress

When it comes to furniture you can buy cheap or upcycle- but of course you can’t do this when it comes to your bed and mattress. It’s always worth buying the best you can afford, even if it means saving up for a while. You’ll get a much better sleep and it will last you for longer.

Don’t be afraid to check out deals and reductions- you might find the perfect bedroom design king size bed for example from certain stockists much cheaper than on the high street. But do your research, make sure the mattress you’re buying is high quality.

So much of our health relies on getting a good night’s sleep, so it makes no sense to try and scrimp here.

Save: the paint and wallpaper

There’s no need to buy really expensive paint and wallpaper. Most DIY stores have a massive range of budget paint in all colours, and there are numerous discount wallpaper stores online. Wallpaper can be pricey if you buy from a high street decor or DIY store, but there are plenty of options if you shop around.

Once it’s hung on the wall, any paper can look good providing it’s been put up correctly.

Don’t feel like you need to go for the most expensive rolls to make your bedroom look good. While of course there are some stunning pricey options out there, do make sure you check what’s on the market.

Wallpapering a feature wall and painting the other three can be a good way to keep the cost of paint down.

Splurge: the curtains and blinds

The curtains and blinds are worth spending a little more on, just because cheaper options aren’t usually as good. To get a good night’s sleep, it’s important to block out light from the street as well as the sun coming up in the morning and so blackout curtains and blinds are the way to go.

These do tend to be on the pricier side, but once they’re up you won’t need to change them again for a long time.

Choose a neutral colour and plain design, and that way even if you update the rest of the room, you can keep the curtains. Whatever you pick, make sure that you go with a good blackout material so you’re able to get the best night’s sleep possible!

Save: rescue the existing carpet

Instead of ripping up the carpet and replacing with new (which can cost a bomb!) can it be revived? Powerful carpet cleaners like the rug doctor can be hired really cheaply and can remove all kinds of marks and stains from carpets making them look new again.

Laying down a rug over the top is another option, it freshens up the space adding colour and texture and can prevent you from needing to buy a whole new carpet in some cases.

If it’s threadbare, badly stained or past reviving then you will have no choice but to replace. But it’s worth knowing that you can bring it back up to scratch in some cases.

Splurge: bedding

Cheap bedding might look nice, but in general it tends to feel cheap. When this is touching your skin, it can affect your comfort levels and even your sleep. Cheaper bedding tends to be mixed cotton with manmade materials, these materials aren’t always that breathable and aren’t good for regulating your temperature.

Splash out if you can, buy sheets and duvet covers in cotton with a high thread count. If you can only find plain bedding that you like, you can always add some throws and pillows to spruce it up.

source

Save: accessories

Speaking of throws and pillows, accessories are one area where you really don’t need to spend much. Vases of flowers, plants, photo frames, candles and other bits and pieces will make your room feel homely and comfortable but can be found cheaply. Look on ebay and in Supermarkets.

Check out end of line clearances, and even consider making your own items.

If you’re a talented artist for example, why not paint something and frame it to hang on your wall? If you’re a dab hand with a sewing machine, you could make some cushions. These things will add colour, texture, style and personality to the space.

Knowing where to splurge and where to save can really help to keep down costs when you’re redecorating your room, but ensuring it looks the best it possibly can. Some places it’s worth spending a little extra, whereas others can be done on a dime. Bear this in mind next time you plan on renovating!

Where would you splurge and where would you save when decorating your bedroom?

Financing Your Family: Earning Money Around Raising Children

Raising kids while earning money can be a difficult balance to get right. While most of us want to be around for our children as much as possible, we need to earn enough to pay the bills- and also keep our skills sharp for our own sake in some cases. Thankfully there are ways it can be done, here are a few ideas.

Work part time

If you have the option to work part time, this can be a great way to keep building your skills without feeling like you’re missing out on raising your children. You could either return back to your previous career or workplace part time, or look online and see where is hiring which offers hours that would work for you.

It doesn’t have to be the most amazing job in the world and it doesn’t matter if it’s not what you want to do forever. It’s a way to earn money in the here and now, and hopefully build skills that will look good on your resume. It also prevents you having large gaps in your employment history.

If it’s something local and isn’t too stressful then it’s worth considering- if you’re the kind of person that likes to be out and doing things, it can prevent you from getting cabin fever by staying at home too. Just be sure to workout your childcare options, unless you’re getting help from family and friends it’s not always worth working since the childcare costs can outweigh what you’re earning. But definitely something to consider.

Study from home

If you’ve chosen to be a stay at home mom, there are things you can be doing to help out towards your career in the long run. Take online study for example, you can do this in any free time you get and it’s completely flexible. You could study for a degree which would open plenty of new doors when you come to apply for jobs later down the line.

If you’ve already got your degree, an online masters would allow you to specialise. If you’re qualified in a nursing field for example, an msn leadership degree would allow you to get a higher, and higher paid position when you come to apply.

Start your own business

If you want to earn money but can’t, (or don’t want to) leave the house where you’re caring for your children, why not start a home business? It’s very possible to earn a good living doing so these days, and you don’t even need any particular skills.

Buying and selling stock for a profit for example could earn you a decent income, of course if you do have skills then you could make you own things to sell. Whether it’s occasion cakes, jewellery, homewares or more. Since you’re the boss you can decide on the hours you want to work, and you can really fit it around your parenting and other things you need to do during the day.

How to get Freebies as a Busy Mom, Blogger, or Influencer

When I started my blogging journey, I never really knew what was going to come of it.  I knew that I wanted something more than just being a mom, I wanted to help others through my experiences.

Once I accomplished that, I wanted more. What do I mean? Did you know that there are so many freebies out there online?  I mean TONS of things.  Not just things for you to promote on your website or social media, but useful things.  It’s amazing.

Here are some cool tips that I have put together as a blogger on where to get free things.

Giveaways

This is the absolute best way to get free things.  Some websites have links or surveys that you must submit in order to enter the giveaway.  This can include one item,  a package or even gift cards. I have yet to actually win a giveaway, but I always enter them. Fingers crossed it happens soon.

Online deals

Believe it or not, there are websites dedicated just to this!  There are some guidelines to the submissions but you can find some pretty great deals this way.  You can find out more by clicking this link. https://www.mojosavings.com/how-to-get-free-bath-and-body-works-full-size-samples/

For example, you can check out these really cool offers from CVS pharmacies. It’s a very awesome deal, especially if you are a beauty influencer.  It’s a great way to share products with your audience.  You can find out more about that by clicking here. https://www.mojosavings.com/free-revlon-kiss-lipbalm/

Apps

Another great way to spot deals are through apps.  I use the Target Cartwheel app like crazy.  Sometimes I buy things from target that I don’t need just to receive the 5 dollar gift card. With cartwheel you can save up to 75% on certain items.  You can monitor your savings on a monthly or annual basis.  I definitely recommend this app, especially if you love target as much as I do.

I really hope some of these tips can help you grow your business or website.

Great Birthday Gifts For Your Growing Child

Somehow, it’s easier to pick out birthday gifts for younger children. When they’re babies or toddlers, they’re often excited just to receive a present in colorful packaging. A box of LEGO or a new pair of shoes might’ve been enough to light up your kid’s face back in the day, but it gets harder as they grow older. As they start to become more independent, your child will probably have their own requests for birthday gifts. Still, if you want a small part of your kid’s birthday to be a surprise then here are some great gift ideas for your growing child.

Arts and crafts.

A great birthday gift for a growing child is anything related to arts and crafts. Kids love being creative at any age, of course, but you might need to think outside the box as they get older. If they’re keen on planes or trains then you could buy them the kit necessary to make their own model versions. Or if they’re into music then you might want to buy them a DIY synth kit; that’s a slightly more adventurous purchase, but it’ll certainly keep them occupied. And that’s the great thing about artistic presents that require construction. They’re the gifts that keep on giving. Once the project is complete, your child can admire their work.

Video games.

For most kids, video games are always a safe bet. The consoles are always changing, but the idea stays the same. Depending on your age, you probably played video games (on some long-forgotten console) when you were younger. You know how exciting a new video game is in the eyes of a kid. They’re still fun when you get older, of course, but there’s something special about the iconic video games of your childhood. You might want to look into a mobile strategy game for kids if they’re a logical thinker who’d be into that sort of thing. A game such as Final Fantasy XV is a good example of this.

Of course, you might want to look into games for other consoles, too. There are plenty of good deals out there, so you might want to treat your kid to a few different games. PUBG is obviously incredibly popular at the moment, and it’s compatible with most consoles (even phones). You might also want to check out the new Spiderman game if you have a PS4 in your household. Let’s be honest, everybody loves Spiderman; that’s a game for everybody in the family (if your child doesn’t mind sharing).

A trip to somewhere they love.

You might have already bought your child the gifts they wanted, but that doesn’t mean you can’t surprise them with something they didn’t request. You could really make your kid’s day special by taking them on a trip to somewhere they love. If you want to truly make their day then you should keep the location a secret until you arrive at the destination.

Perhaps you could pretend that you’re getting in the car for a quick shopping trip (every kid’s worst nightmare). Then, they’ll be even happier when you actually turn up at the zoo, the cinema, or any other place they love. It depends how sneaky you want to be, of course.

If you think they’ll just complain during the car journey then maybe you should give them a hint that your destination isn’t actually somewhere boring.
