Things I Would Tell My Twenty Year Old Self

When you hit your twenties, it seems like such a massive age. No longer a teenager. Then the years keep flying by and before you know it you are in your late twenties. You twenties seems like the decade where you change the most. If you look at a just turned twenty-year-old to someone who is nearly thirty, it is quite a gap. It is amazing just to think about how much one person can change in ten years, isn’t it? You might still have some of the same interests. You might still have some of the same friends or hobbies. But there are certainly things that with hindsight you might now do differently. What are some things that you would go back and tell your twenty-year-old self?

Take Care of Your Appearance
How you look seems like such a high priority to a twenty-year-old. But what I often didn’t think about is just how much it can set you up for life. Having a good routine in place never seemed like such a priority to me. But it certainly should have been. I would tell my past self to not over pluck my eyebrows to within an inch of their life. I would say to always take your makeup off at night. That morning after the night before look is never a good one. I’d tell me to use a moisturiser every single day. I’d sat brush your teeth and take care of them. I’d have arranged to have my teeth taken care of with some invisible Invisalign braces. It turns out, people in their twenties don’t really care if you have braces anymore.

You Find Out Who Your Real Friends Are
It can seem as soon as you leave school or University, that you just lose friends. But in reality, you are just finding out who the true friends in your life are. It can feel upsetting at the time, but it helps to make you a stronger person. You don’t need to have a large number of people around you. Rather, having a smaller group of closer, reliable, and trustworthy friends means much more.

Just Do It
There are many instances when we are growing up that we might want to do things. But we justify our way out of it and put off some of the dreams that we have. I would have said to just go for it. If you want to travel the world, then just do it. If you want to try a certain job or do something crazy like skydiving, then just do it. Otherwise, life gets in the way and it is harder to just get up and do something.

You’re Certainly Not Old
You can feel so ‘old’ when you’re in your twenties. When you’ve graduated and starting out work, you will actually be one of the youngest people in the workforce. So don’t let anyone walk all over you. You have got years and years ahead of you so make sure that you enjoy them!

Indispensable Self Build Advice

Building your own home can seem like an excellent way to get exactly what you want, and save a little money too. But it isn’t always the easiest route to home ownership to choose. In fact, there are a lot of things that you need to be aware of before you embark on a major project like this. Read on to find out more.

Land
The first thing that you need to be aware of when aiming to build your own property is that you must secure the land to build it on.
This is a lot easier in some states than it is in others. It also used to be the case that the federal government would give away free land to encourage people to build on it. But that no longer happens now as they sell it instead.

Image

However, there are still some states that will do this independently. Although you will have to meet their individual criteria. For example, you may have to have been a US citizen for a certain amount of time. Or be willing to build a property that is worth over $100000. You can find out some more information about this here.

Plans
Next, when you are aiming to build a home, you need a plan to work from. Some folks think that they can whip out a pencil and draw up their own plans, and expect to have no problems. But this is really asking for trouble. There is a reason architects go to school for so long, and that is because designing home isn’t exactly the easiest thing in the world to do!
Picture

Now, I get that if you are going for basic design or a smaller building, it might be a lot easier and cheaper to design your own home or buy a pre-drawn design from the internet. But you need to think carefully about how much experience you and your team gave in building and how much customization you want before you do this.

Finances
Of course, houses can’t be conjured out of thin air, so that means they take a fair bit of money to build. You will need to pay for all sort of things such as land surveys, design fees, materials, and labor. But getting financing for building your own home can be difficult.

To improve your changes make sure that you have at least 25% of the overall house cost saved before you go to the bank for a loan. You should also make sure that your current debts and credit score are in good condition too. Click the link for an interesting read on how your credit works and what you can do to boost it.

Permissions
Now when building your own home, you definitely need to make sure that you have the right permissions before you start construction.
This means talking to your local building permit office or zoning construction center. Remember You will need their permission, as well as permission from any relevant homeowners association to go ahead before you begin work on you home.

Mom’s Biggest Bugbears: How To Turn Your Home Into A Harmless Haven

As a mom, you want to make sure that your home is a safe, comfortable place where you can relax and enjoy family life. If you’ve got problems that are preventing you from creating a heavenly haven, it’s always wise to act swiftly. When it comes to common bugbears, time usually makes the situation worse, rather than better. Here are some common issues, and how to get rid of them. Your home will be a secure, relaxing sanctuary in no time!

Damp

Damp patches should always set alarm bells ringing. Damp is a sign of excess moisture in the walls. It can also indicate problems with the roof. If you notice darker patches on the walls or ceilings, it’s best to call in the professionals and have them take a look. Damp tends to get worse with time, and it can cause long-term damage. If you have children or you suffer from asthma, it’s particularly important to try and find a solution. Moisture can make symptoms of asthma worse.

Pests

Has your home been invaded by rats or have you spotted cockroaches in the kitchen? Have you been itching at night or have you noticed mosquitoes in the backyard? Pests can be a nightmare. They’re not only unpleasant to live with. They can also cause extensive damage to your property. If you’re worried about pests, look out for warning signs, like scrabbling noises, droppings, and new openings in the walls. Some pests can pose a risk to your health, so it’s advisable to seek expert help as soon as possible. Enlisting the help of mosquito control experts, for example, will enable to enjoy your garden without any worries.

Dust
Does your home seem to attract dust? Does it seem to become dusty even when you’ve only just vacuumed? If you live near a road, you have an old house, or you own pets, you may be susceptible to dust. Vacuum frequently, and invest in an air purifier. Wash bedding and towels at least once a week, and try and confine pets to downstairs rooms. Groom them daily to prevent excess molting. After you’ve vacuumed, dust down furniture, and sweep slate and tiled floors. If you have pets, and they shed a lot of fur, it may be worth spending more on a vacuum that is specially designed to remove fur. You may find that an everyday cleaner doesn’t cut the mustard.

Are you a mom who wishes her home was a heavenly, harmless haven? If we looked closely, most of us would probably find hazards lurking in our homes. Hopefully, these tips will help you identify issues, and find appropriate solutions. If you notice warning signs like animal droppings or damp patches, act now. The longer you leave it, the higher the risk of damage. Sometimes, it’s possible to take steps to resolve problems yourself. However, in some instances, such as tackling damp or dealing with a pest infestation, you’ll need expert help. Search for local firms online, read reviews, and ask around for recommendations.

The 3 Most Essential Items For New Mothers

Image

If you are currently pregnant for the first time, then there is plenty that you need to consider as soon as possible. Chances are, you are feeling a huge combination of emotions, and you might even be wondering what to think. The first thing to remember is to try and slow down. Many people have been there before you, and you can do it too. Next you will want to start thinking about some of the essentials. For example, what kinds of items are you going to need for when the baby arrives? Chances are you already have a fair list in your head of what you will need. In this post, we aim to help you ensure that you have thought of everything. Here are a few of the essential items that every new mother needs to remember.

Diapers

It might seem like an obvious one, but it is one of the essentials that you just can’t go without. Many other items on lists such as this you could do without for a time, but diapers are non-negotiable. It is a good idea to stock up as early as possible. If you have a spare room or somewhere similar, you could start to stockpile them. It might sound extreme, but every parent knows what it’s like to nearly run out of diapers, and it is a level of stress which you could probably best do without. So stock up early and make sure to keep adding to the pile. You will probably be surprised at just how many of them your little one gets through in such a short space of time.

Nursing Covers

If you will want to breastfeed in public, then you might want to think about your own privacy. After all, it can often be a sensitive subject, and you will want to make sure that you are comfortable when you are breastfeeding. To that end, it is a good idea to compare the best nursing covers and find one that suits your needs. With the right nursing cover, you will find the process of breastfeeding in public much more comfortable and much easier. And the more comfortable you are during the process, the better it is for both baby and you.

Wipes
Similarly to diapers, you just can’t have too many wipes. You will find that you get through these extremely fast, and as with diapers too it is a good idea to build a stockpile of them as early on as possible. This is something which you can save a lot of money on if you buy in bulk, as they often have good deals attached to them. Consider either a supermarket or a cash and carry and get your hands on as many as you can afford. You might also want to pay attention to the different kinds of wipes that you can get hold of, as they are not all made equal. Being prepared means having to think about these little details, so it is well worth getting used to that as early on as possible.

Small Garden. Big Ideas.

Not all of us can afford to live in the countryside or have an apartment with a rooftop terrace or a terraced house with a far-reaching front and back lawn. Some of us have to manage with small courtyards. But small doesn’t mean boring. Small means fun. Small means getting to explore space-saving ideas, and space-saving ideas are usually always creative, innovative and gorgeous. Don’t believe us, have a look for yourself.

The Walls

A great way to make your space look more wow is to use the walls to great effect. You are an artist and they are your canvases. So why not dress them up a little. Have a wall where you install a vertical herb garden, by which we really do mean vertical. Just get yourself a trellis, some small plant pots – either with handles or buy some hangers – and voila, you have a herb garden. Or why not make your wall a feature wall with serious depth, one that makes your space seem both magical and bigger. A great way to do this is with mirrors. Frame some mirrors and stick them up. Maybe even tilt them slightly upward so they reflect any surrounding trees, or even the stars (fairy-lights will do). Or why not create some wall art out of bright plants and little flowers. There are loads of ways to get creative.

Water Feature

These don’t have to be big. In fact, smaller is better. Build yourself a little pond or rock pool, use it as a centrepiece or even make a rock waterfall in one of the corners. The great thing about having a small space is, any water feature will have a massive effect on your peace and tranquility. How? Well, the trickling water from your corner-fall will be heard, and there is nothing more relaxing than trickling water.

Floor space

Grass is probably not an option. It’s a hassle to get a lawn-mower into a compact garden and a real pain to try and cut grass with nail-scissors. As such, why not get your place decked. Or better yet, lay some fake grass. This will give off that green vibe we all love. Looking out your window as you wash up, your grass lawn looking fresh and clean. What’s more kids and dad will love it just as much. They will be able to kick a ball about. Or listen here, even better than football, they will be able to practice their putting game before the weekend round of golf.

Pots

Go over the top with pots. Big, small, oversized; chuck them into your small space and fill them with all sorts, an array of things from tomatoes to wildflowers to roses and palms. Then put a nice relaxing chair in their and a side table and you’ve created your own little escape from the life’s stresses. Your own little tranquillity garden. Mmmmmmm.

Hide and Seek

A great way to obscure the size of your garden is to hide the boundaries. Through some creepers at the fence, some ivy or something. Because my hiding your boundaries you are obscuring the true size which leads to your space appearing bigger than it is. The way this works is gorgeously simple. You can’t see it all from any one vantage point which means you can’t see where it ends. Bingo. Bigger garden. Sort of.

Keeping Your Home Clean When You’re a Busy Mom

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you’re a mom, you spend so much time taking care of your kids’ needs that it can be difficult to find the time to take care of all those household chores that are vital if you want to keep your home clean and attractive. Fortunately, there are lots of little tricks you can use to squeeze in some much-needed cleaning and get your home looking good in record time.

Here are some simple cleaning hacks for keeping your home clean as a busy mom:

Get into a Routine

Write a list of all the chores that need doing and then create a roster so that you know what you are going to be doing and when you will be doing it. Your roster should not just include household chores, but also errands and events outside the home, to ensure that you can fit everything in.

Invest in the Best Cleaning Tools

If you can afford it, you might want to invest in time-saving cleaning tools like the best carpet steam cleaner you can afford or even a robot vacuum, as this will cut the amount of time you need to spend on cleaning significantly, and in the case of a robot vacuum, it will remove the need to carry out that one task at all!

Remove Clutter as You Clean

As you clean a particular area, also make efforts to pick up and put away any clutter, not only will this improve the look of your home, but it will also help you to clean more efficiently as there will be less stuff to get in the way.

Use Vinegar

White vinegar is one of the most effective cleaning substances out there. Not only is it completely natural and toxin free, but it also gets rid of dirt and grime like nothing else, which means you can spend less time scrubbing and more time enjoying life.

Use Your Vacuum More

Instead of wasting your time with dusters and brooms, use your vacuum! You can use your vacuum cleaner on everything from your curtains and mirrors to hardwood floors and even your outside space; you just have to ensure that you are using the right attachments and settings for each job.

Use Lint Rollers

If you have pets, or your home tends to get very dusty, buy a few lint rollers and leave them in the most affected rooms, that way, you can quickly remove any debris without having to put yourself out too much.

Use Toothpaste

Toothpaste is great at removing pen and crayon stains if your kids have unleashed their inner Picasso’s on your wall. You can eliminate these kinds of stains very quickly with toothpaste, so you won’t need to waste a lot of time on the task.

Toothbrushes are also great for cleaning and will get into any nooks and crannies much more efficiently than a cloth.

These tips are simple and effective, but if all else fails, you could always take a look at your finances and see if you could afford to hire a cleaner to do it all for you!

It might seem a bit premature, but if you want your summer to be one of the best for you and your family, there are so many things you can do now to ensure you all have a fantastic time, without having to worry about many of the usual summer chores, when the hottest month finally shows its face.

If your summer wardrobe is starting to look a little threadbare, why not take the time to shop for some new summer outfits right now? When you shop for your summer wardrobe out of season, you can often getter better deals, and you won’t have to worry about shuffling around clothes stores when things heat up, and you’d rather be sipping a cocktail by the pool.

Check Your Air Conditioning

At least a couple of months before summer hits, you should check that your air conditioning is working correctly, and get in touch with an air conditioning repair company if you find anything wrong. Even if your air conditioning seems to be in good working order, it might still be worth calling in a professional to have it serviced, so that it doesn’t fail when you need it most.

Spring Clean Your Freezer

Summer is the perfect time for ice cream and popsicles, so if you don’t want to disappoint your kids with their favourite frozen treats, and help them keep cool in the heat, you will want to empty, defrost and declutter your fridge before summer time comes rolling.

Spruce Up the Garden

If you plan to spend a lot of time in your garden this summer and your garden isn’t in the best shape, now is the time to do something about it. Buy some flower boxes, mow the lawn, and when spring comes around, do some planting to ensure that your garden looks great when you want to use it most.

Start a Summer Stockpile

There are lots of things that you need for summer that you rarely have any use for the rest of the year, but if you don’t want to waste your pressure summertime shopping for the likes of sunscreen, picnic baskets and barbeque charcoal, it would be smart to stock up on them now. Every time you visit the store, buy something for the summer until you have everything you need.

Clean the Barbeque

If you don’t already have a barbeque, get one before the summer rush. If you do have a barbeque, chances are it hasn’t been cleaned in a while, so get some soapy water and a wire brush and get cleaning. Your summer visitors will thank you for it!

Now you’ve got all that sorted; you can start looking forward to summer again, safe in the knowledge that you’ll barely have to lift a finger when it comes.

The 10 Areas Of Health You Should Never Neglect

https://www.pexels.com/photo/woman-girl-silhouette-jogger-40751/

Being at a good level of health will mean something different to us all. What is health to you and your family, might not be to another. But, there is one thing that we can all agree on, and that’s sometimes we all need to make sure that we’re on top of our health checks and physically (or mentally) running right.

When you focus on the set areas of your health that will always need the most attention, you’re doing your bit to consciously lead a healthy life. You’ll often find that you’re promoting and sharing the idea of having good health with your children too because you’re leading by example. If you want to do your bit to improve your health and ensuring that you’re on top form at all times, here are the ten areas of health that you should never neglect.

Muscular

First up, you’re going to want to make sure that your muscles are always in good shape. Even if you’ve had a healthy youth, if you don’t use your body, it will become useless – especially as you age. So, if you want to ensure that your muscles don’t waste away, or that you get rid of the idea of having aches and pains as you age, you’re going to want to make sure your muscles always stay healthy.

Teeth

We all know that we should be staying on top of our oral health, but it’s easier said than one. Knowing that you need to have an appointment every six months doesn’t mean that you always do it. But if you want to keep your teeth in good shape for the rest of your life, you need to get online and find a website that can help you locate your nearest dentist and get that appointment made. You should also keep on top of your flossing, as well as brushing every single morning and night.

Mental

Although we all know to prioritize physical health, we don’t always put enough focus on our mental health. It used to be quite the taboo, and to some people, it will be, but good mental health is just as important as having a good physical level of health – if not more. When you have a healthy mind, you can enjoy life more. Whether you’re sad, or stressed more than you should be, be sure to talk to your doctor and stop any problems from seriously setting in.

Women’s Health

Like mental health, women’s health is a subject that we can be quite sensitive about – as is men’s health. But it’s important that you erase any fears or worries when it comes to these areas – especially if you want to maintain a good level of health. Not only do you have the concern of cancer to beat, but you also want to ensure that you are healthy in both the reproductive and sexual senses. Or, work on overcoming any problems that you might be facing – your husband too.

Vital

Then, we have our vital organs. It’s not an area that is as easy to monitor as well as others unless you’re prepared to pay what it costs, but the health of your vital organs can be more important than any. The best way to stay on top of it, or at least try to exert some form of control, is to ensure that you don’t smoke or drink to excess. Smoking is extremely harmful to you in many ways, but drinking a lot of alcohol can put a lot of strain on your organs – a lot more than you could ever realize.

Eyes

Your eyes do a lot of work, so it’s important that you’re prepared to keep them in good shape. We often have a range of eye tests during our educational years, to then assume that we’re good to go for the rest of our lives, but that’s simply not true. To maintain good eye health, you should aim to eat well, and wear sunglasses and protective eyewear whenever you need to, as well as have regular eye tests to see if you need glasses or to change your prescription.

Fitness

In our youth, fitness is something that we take for granted – even if we don’t mean to. But just like caring for your muscles, you should do the same with your fitness levels. As they say – use it or lose it. You’re only ever as fit as you choose to be. So, do your best to leave an active lifestyle, and you’ll be sure to keep a good level of fitness into your old age.

Stress

Stress is something that will affect us all at some point or another in life. Some of us are better at dealing with it than others, but that doesn’t mean that you have to deal with it. In fact, it’s important to you health for you to be able to stay as stress-free as possible, or at least know how to minimize any stress that does come your way – for your sanity, if not your heart. So, start working in ways to destress into your day – your health is counting on it.

Ears

Just like your teeth and eyes, you need to make sure that you’re not neglecting your ears. You need to make sure that you take care of your hearing to know when you need help. Although our hearing may naturally deteriorate as we age, there are things you can do to keep your hearing as healthy as possible. Use protective ear wear if you’re regularly around loud noises, and try to keep yourself away from them as much as you can.

Skin

And then we have our skin – the biggest organ that we own. Because it’s our outer shell, we don’t always prioritize it – when we really should. We’ve only got one skin, so we need to protect it. You should aim to cover up as much as you can, moisturize regularly to keep it smooth and healthy, and wear SPF whenever you’re out in the sun. If you do that, then you’re one step ahead of having healthy skin for life.

Don’t Let Them Drive You Up The Wall! Tips To Traveling With Your Family

https://pixabay.com/en/snow-car-child-smile-stuck-winter-170131/

Regardless of the time of year or however few kids you have in tow, going on vacation with the family can be a really stressful activity. Taking the kids on any kind of road trip, or traveling on an airplane with them requires so much planning in advance that you may as well be running a military operation alongside it! But here we go, the ultimate guide to traveling with your kids on long-haul trips!

Packing

The moment your vacation begins is as soon as you leave the house, so make sure that you are packing everything you need, no matter how trivial you think it may be at the time. We all know how important Maurice The Monkey is to our little one! If your road trip includes any overnight stays, pack your child’s blanket and pillow (if you have room), that way it will help your child go to sleep in a strange environment. For yourself, pack a separate bag to your luggage, as long-haul flights or trips mean you will be without any decent home comforts, and something as simple as having a toothbrush handy will help to make you feel a bit more human when in the pit-stop.

Make sure you have paper towels handy too, as any spillages will require a swift clean-up, and if it is left too long, it will not only be sticky on the car upholstery, but it may start to smell and make for a very unpleasant journey!

The Journey

Pexels

The best way to beat the journey is by tackling the three B’s: Boredom, Boredom, Boredom! Keeping the kids entertained is the major factor in making the trip go smoothly for everyone concerned! The most successful method for keeping kids entertained on long trips are the portable CD/DVD players. The almost infinite amount of music or films can keep a child quiet for hours, and it stops them fighting with each other. Snacks are another way of staving off boredom, as eating gives the kids something to do, but try and bring healthy snacks on bored, as anything with a bit too much sugar may have the opposite effect of keeping them quiet! For the toddlers, choose the toys wisely! A noisy toy can be incredibly distracting on the road and potentially dangerous depending on the largeness of it.

The Destination

Choose wisely on a family vacation! Whether you’re going cross-country from New York to LA, or you are heading down south, you need the result to be as activity-based as possible for the kids. There are many Louisiana getaways that are suitable for moms and dads, but there are plenty of things to please the children too. The Sci Port Service Center in Shreveport is a fun place for kids to learn about science with interactive experiments, educational programs and play areas. The kids won’t even realise they’re learning!

The task that comes with keeping a child entertained on a long journey is a big one! And if you’ve never done it before, make sure you plan ahead. A happy child is a happy family!

Fun Activities Fit For The Whole Family

Let face it, keeping the family fit and healthy, can seem like an uphill struggle sometimes. Feeding them right and making sure that everyone gets enough exercise can be such a pain. But it needn’t be so hard. In fact, if you pick the right activities to do, the family will be asking you when their next fitness sessions are! Read on to find out more.

Let’s play ball!

When you are trying to motivate kids to exercise, it best to stay away from the more traditional activities such as running around the block. For one these aren’t always appropriate for the little ones, and they can seem a little intimidating as well.

Instead, the focus should really be on fun, with the activity just being part of that. This is the way to establish a positive connection between getting them to move around more and having a good time.

One of the easiest ways to do this is to set up some competitive ball games within your own household or neighborhood. Things like basketball, baseball or football are a great way of getting the kids up and about. Also, they get so into the competition element, that they will forget all about how many times they have run up and down the court, pitch or field.

Cycling

Another easy way of getting the whole family doing some exercise it to organize cycling trips out. These can be over a shorter distance to somewhere in your local area, such as a park. Or you can strap the bikes to the back of the SUV and head on into the country for some longer routes.

The combination of seeing new scenery and getting there under their own steam is very appealing to a lot of people. It also helps to change the focus from the physical activity to the fun they can get out of it instead.

Trampolining

Now, why doesn’t like trampolining? This is a brilliant physically activity as it uses up calories, but also allows the whole family to work on their balance and coordination as well.

Picture here

Trampolining is so much fun that many people already have them in their own back yards as toys. But you can make them into a more thorough but fun workout by setting specific challenge like forward, or backwards rolls. Or you can even visit trampoline centers where there are a lot of different ones to play on.

Dancing

Something else that is a wonderful activity that will make everyone forget about how hard they are actually working is dance. Dancing can be done by any type of person and any age.

You can dance at home if you like, or at parties or even in a club. You can even try a Zumba dance class in the gym if you like. These can work especially well for families, as there are child level ones available, as well as one for the grown ups.

Or if they aren’t quite ready for a class yet, there are plenty of kids TV shows that includes a dancing segment as well. These will get the little ones up and exercising, while having the time of their lives.
