I have become quite the skeptic when it comes to what type of schooling I want to introduce to my children. With the recent events of violence around our nation I am not only saddened but I am fearful for my own children and their safety. I recently had a conversation with my cousin regarding this very topic, and although I have “time” because both of my kids are still young. I want to be prepared for this issue when the time comes, and I highly recommend you all do the same. So I came up with a small list of some pros and cons of homeschooling, and how each of these can impact the child. Through my own research I have found that it all depends on how much you are willing to sacrifice for your children’s education and financial aspects. Let’s look at all the pros and cons of homeschooling;
Pros:
- Great source of one on one education.
- There are great lesson plans and curriculum.
- You are with your child at all times and know where they are.
- You are fully aware of the quality of their education, you are providing them with what you want them to learn and what will benefit them for the future.
- Home school associations which include field trips, and activities with their peers
Cons:
- Requires all of your time which means little to no breaks; whereas when they go to school you are alone most of the day unless you have little ones still at home.
- Less interaction with their peers which can cause anti social behavior in some cases.
- Learning disabilities are not noticed as quickly and can cause delays in their advancements.
- Different learning environments can enhance the child’s learning abilities and explore their talents.
While public school may not be all that great, I went to a public school as did my husband and we turned out OK. Today times are changing, and so is the public school system especially here in the Los Angeles area. From what I have seen compared to other districts in other states, the curriculum is slower and far behind and our kids in public schools are the ones suffering, of course money plays a huge factor in these issues. Homeschooling is not “traditional” however, as parents we have the option to choose what we think and feel is best for our kids. It still amazes me how blessed we are to have the freedom we do when it comes to raising our kids. Education is something so special and dear to my heart, because it is so important. We need to make the best decisions we can for our kids and their futures. I do believe that if the student and parent put in the work, the child will succeed. These times are rough and we as parents worry about the safety and well being of our kids. Today that is being compromised and it is important to know your options and take action.
I always look forward to your feedback and comments, so feel free to share. Signing off for now sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. Keep striving for mommy success! 🙂
