Have you or your kids watched Stranger Things on Netflix?
For you, it might harken back to the daily bike rides, Dungeons and Dragons sessions or even just the laid-back lives of the time period.
Things aren’t like that anymore, and that’s for better or for worse. We can’t stop the passage of time and the changes it brings, but what we can do is try and adapt.
It’s not a bad thing, but these days, children and teens have more options for fun than ever before. Why opt for a bike-ride when you can sit down, link up with your pals over the internet and play your favourite game? It doesn’t seem such a hard choice when it’s laid out like that, does it?
But still, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the kids and leave them to their own devices. You should endeavour to get out and about once in a while.
The obvious method for this is bike-rides. Fitness is important as our livelihoods are growing increasingly sedentary and it’s more important than ever to get moving. Buying a few bikes and riding around the local area and park is fantastic way to bond with your kids and get them out of the house for an hour or two a week. It’s a good habit to build and even affords them their own method of transport so you don’t have to be ‘Mom: The Taxi’. Of course, check a few reviews of bike models before you purchase. You want this to be long-lasting.
Secondly, you should consider a camping trip. Some parents choose to ban technology on such trips and that is totally up to you. Personally, this might shut off the kids to the idea of getting out as it would seem like some sort of punishment. Maybe they should be encouraged to share their experiences of camping and capture the moments they enjoy. Who knows, in time they might be begging you to go again! Remember, if you’ve got children with bags of tech, it’s worth making sure that the gadgets can be juiced up. Look at solar power for the answer to this and make sure to study some solar generator reviews before investing.
The answer to getting out and about may just be in your daily routine. Ask the kids if they’d like to go shopping with you, if they’d like to go swimming at your gym or even swap out a few home cooked meals for a restaurant once in a blue moon. There are so many ways to get the children involved so they can be interested in hobbies that exist outside of their bedroom door and even then, you might consider watching films or forming a family book club.
The answers are absolutely everywhere and even though getting out and about with the kids seems like a task unto itself these days, just ask yourself what you could be doing with your kids and do it. It’ll be worth it in the long run.
